Background of the Study
Student counseling services are essential in higher education to provide students with guidance on personal, academic, and career-related issues. However, traditional counseling services in universities often struggle with limitations such as long wait times, limited availability, and an overwhelming number of students seeking support. As a result, there is growing interest in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize counseling services, making them more accessible, efficient, and personalized.
AI-powered chatbots have the potential to revolutionize university counseling services by providing immediate, 24/7 support to students. These chatbots can assist students with mental health concerns, academic stress, career advice, and general well-being. Using natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning algorithms, AI chatbots can engage in meaningful conversations with students, analyze their concerns, and provide relevant guidance or direct them to appropriate resources.
Federal University, Gashua, located in Bade LGA, Yobe State, recognizes the need to improve its counseling services to better support its growing student population. This study will explore the development and implementation of an AI-powered chatbot system for optimizing student counseling services at the university.
Statement of the Problem
Federal University, Gashua faces challenges in providing timely and personalized counseling services to its students due to the high demand for support and limited resources.
